957,730. Multitubular heat-exchangers. P. LEGRAND. Oct. 13, 1960 [Oct. 14, 1959], No. 35184/60. Heading F4S. A multitubular heat-exchanger comprises tubes 2 which are arranged substantially in zig-zag and side-by-side relation inside a flat element 1 and in several layers A, B, C, D ... parallel to the main flat faces 3 and 4 of the casing of the element. An inlet 7 and an outlet 8 are connected respectively to two flared portions 5 and 6 forming headers and the tubes 2 are curved inside these headers so as to diverge and be uniformly distributed in section in these headers. In operation, the nests of tubes are arranged in groups, each group comprising an equal number of tubes from each layer. The tubes for each group are so chosen that the group extends substantially over the whole width I of the heat-exchanger. The heatexchanger operates in a cyclic manner, one group of tubes at a time.
