Abstract

806,343. Air heaters. HENSCHEL & SOHN G.m.b. H. Sept. 12, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 26009/55. Class 64(1) An air heater comprises a plurality of banks of straight tubes 1, each tube bank having a transverse cross-section whose dimension in the direction of cross-flow of exhaust gases over the tubes exceeds and spans a greater number of tubes than the cross-sectional dimersion at right angles thereto, the tubes of each bank extending between flat rectangular end plates of box shaped headers 7 which are connected through tubular extensions 8, 10 to upper and lower drum-like air chambers 12, common to all the tube banks. Transverse baffles 3, are provided to cause the exhaust gases to make a plurality of passes over the tubes of each bank. The tubular extensions of adjacent headers are offset as shown. Hollow baffles are provided between adjacent tube banks (Fig. 3, not shown). Additional tube units may be arranged as shown in Fig. 5.
