Abstract

775,651. Heat exchangers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., TOOGOOD, G. D. and WHITE, J. C. S. July 17, 1953 [Dec. 14, 1951], No. 29307/51. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of bundles of individual heat exchange elements 1 grouped to form stacks, each stack having headers 2, 3 at opposite ends and, above and below the stack, a longitudinally flanged casing section 4 of substantially the same width as the stack, adjacent sections being detachably secured together and to separate unitary casings 10, 11 containing the headers 2. 3, the arrangement being such that elements in any stack may be removed without disturbing the elements of adjacent stacks. In the form shown each stack of elements is provided with side plates 5 detachably secured to the members 4' and the headers 2 and 3 communicate with manifolds 14, 15 respectively. Flexible connections to accommodate expansion may be provided between the individual element bundles and one of the headers to which they are connected or between the headers and one or other of the manifolds. The flexible connection may include a metallic spring or a cushion or capsule pressurized by the fluid passing through the heat exchange elements or from any other source.
