In a rotary press having a plurality of printing cylinders 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, associated with a single impression cylinder, circumferential adjustment of each printing cylinder with respect to the impression cylinder is effected through rotation of a hand wheel 9 mounted on the bearing housing of the printing cylinder. The driving mechanism of the press comprises a central toothed wheel 18 geared to a toothed wheel 1 rotatably mounted on the spindle of each printing cylinder through a sleeve 2, Fig. 2. The latter sleeve is mounted on a sleeve 3 keyed to the spindle and each sleeve carries a ring of teeth differing in number from the other by one. Rotation of the wheel 1 and hence the sleeve 2 is transmitted to the cylinder via the sleeve 3 by four equiangularly spaced wheels 4 each of which has two toothed rims of different diameters and numbers of teeth engaging, respectively, the teeth carried by the sleeves 2 and 3. Circumferential adjustment of the printing cylinder through actuation of the hand wheel 9 is effected by mounting the wheels 4 in a housing 5 which is rotatable relative to the printing cylinder by the interengagement of a worm gear 7 connected to the hand wheel 9 and a ring of teeth carried by the housing. The hand wheel assembly is mounted on a plate 6 which supports a protective hood 17 for the wheel 1 and carries a projection 12 whereby the cylinder and its driving wheel 1 and adjusting apparatus may be mounted in the press through the sliding engagement of the projection in one of a series of slots 13 formed in a ring 14 secured to the base of the press. The top part of the wheel 18 is protected by a hood 20.
