Class 100(2) An impression roller for use in a process for printing on material before spinning and weaving, has helical projecting impression elements mounted on the central body of the roller at least a part of the impression elements being detachably secured to the roller. The roller includes a shaft 11 (Figs. 1, 3 and 4) and a body portion 12 fixed thereto by members 13. Fixed helical elements 31 are secured on the portion 12. End plates 15 are secured on the ends of the roller by screws 16 and nuts 26, and are provided with a toothed periphery 20 having slots 25. Detachable helical elements 30 are provided at their ends with a portion 29 from which project bolts 21, engageable in the slots 25 of the plates 15. The bolts 21 are provided with nuts 22 which may be permanently secured thereto. When the elements 30 are in position a securing ring which may comprise three segments, is secured to the end plate 15 and fixed in position by screws 24. The screws 16 are provided with left hand threads engaging the members 13, a spacing collar 19, and right hand threads engaging the nuts 26 so that rotation of the screws 16 clockwise, by means of square ends provided on the screws, causes the end plates to be moved away from the roller thus tensioning the helical elements 30. In an alternative embodiment the end plates may be provided with a number of circumferentially extending slots, instead of the radial slots 25, for receiving the screws 21. In a further embodiment, (Fig. 15), the detachable helical elements 60 are provided in the laminar projections 62 which are engageable with the radial slots in the end plates 65, a cover plate 66 being held in position by screws 70.
