Abstract

544,532. Printing-machines. RITCHIE, H. April 4, 1941, No. 4523. [Class 100 (ii)] A rotary lithographic offset printing-machine of the kind in which the printing-plate is secured to a printing-cylinder which is split longitudinally and is contracted to receive the printing-plate and expanded to receive it in position is constructed so as to permit the driving-connection between the printing and offset cylinders to be readily disconnected, and to permit the positive circumferential adjustment of the plate cylinder relatively to the offset cylinder when the drive is disconnected. To the shaft 12 of the plate cylinder 11 is connected by a screw 19 a bevel gear 14 and discs 15, 16 all connected by bolts 17. A split driving-gear 21 which gears with the offset cylinder is normally clamped to the discs 15, 16 by a screw 29, and the hub of wheel 21 is fitted with a small bevel wheel 31 adapted to engage the bevel wheel 14. When adjustment of the wheel 21 relatively to the shaft 12 is required the screw 29 is loosened and the wheel 31 operated by a screw-driver adapted to engage the feed 30 of a stud on which the wheel 31 is mounted. After adjustment, which may be assisted by a pointer 35 on wheel 21 and a scale 21A on disc 15, the wheel 21 is clamped in position by the screw 29.
