Abstract
A composite body suitable as a hydrogen electrode in a fuel cell comprises a coating of a hydride of Ti, Zr, Th, Ce or U on a base of Ta or Pd or their alloys. The hydride coating is formed by coating the base with the metal either by vapour deposition or by sintering, rolling or pressing the metal powder and then hydriding the metal by treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere.ALSO:A composite body suitable as a hydrogen electrode in a fuel cell comprises a coating of a hydride of Ti, Zr, Th, Ce or U on a base of Ta or Pd or their alloys. The hydride coating is formed by coating the base with the metal either by vapour deposition or by sintering, rolling or pressing the metal powder and then hydriding the metal by treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere. A tube of a Pd/Ag alloy is coated with sintered U and then hydrided. An example is also given of the vapour deposition of Ti on Pd.
