Abstract

1352390 Sintered coating on metal anode C CONRADTY 8 June 1971 [16 July 1970] 19470/71 Headings C7B and C7D A metal anode is provided with a covering layer wherein actuating substances which counteract passivation are anchored in a sintered porous carrier layer of the metal. The metal may be Ti, Ta, Nb, Zr, Hf, W, Mo or alloys thereof. The actuating substances may be Au, Ag or the oxides and metals of the platinum group or oxides or oxide mixtures of Pb, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mn, Cu, Cd, Sn, Sb. The metal surface is prepared by grinding, etching, rinsing or steam degreasing. The powders are fixed to the metal surface by an adhesive. Fillers may be added such as ammonium perchlorate, chromate, sulphate or resin diluted with alcohol. Sintering takes place in vacuo or in argon. The actuating substances are introduced into the carrier layer by vapour deposition or electrolysis. The electrode is particularly suitable for the electrolyis of alkali metal chlorides.
