Abstract
1,198,600. Gettering discharge tubes; thermionic cathode constructions. SIEMENS A.G. 31 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 16660/69. Heading H1D. A getter comprises a layer 3 of non-vaporizing getter material coated directly on the insulation 2 of a heating coil 1. The insulation 2 may be a sintered coating of alumina. The getter material may be one or more of the metals Zr, Ta Hf, Nb, Ti, Th, U in powder form and may be sintered or may contain up to 30% by weight of powdered electrolytic graphite to prevent sintering. The getter coating may be applied by spraying or by dipping the insulated coil into an alcoholic suspension of the powdered getter material and then baking in vacuo at 800- 1200 C. or by pressing the getter material in dry powder form on to the insulated coil in a mould and then burning on the resulting coating. The coated coil may be used as a cathode heater and the winding may be bifilar.
