Abstract

A dark surfaced insulating coating on a tungsten filament for a cathode heater comprises a first sprayed and sintered layer of Al2O3 and an outer layer containing metallic tungsten, formed by spraying on a suspension of at least 8% of Al2O3 and the remainder WO3 in butyl acetate, and drying and heating in a reducing atmosphere.
