[Also in Division F4] Apparatus for grinding granular non-agglutinant materials comprises grinding means working in the interior of a chamber 1 the height of which above the grinding means is at least three times the greatest transverse dimension of the chamber and means for admitting an upward flow F of gas at a speed between 1 and 4 metres per second to the lower part of the chamber whereby the flow of gas maintains the unground or insufficiently ground materials in the fluidized phase while carrying away out of the chamber the ground materials which have attained the desired fineness. The grinding means are constituted by a rod mill comprising at least one rotary cage 4 and fixed rods 7. A grid 3 may be provided. To dry the materials, the gas may be heated.
