Abstract

943,176. Edge-runner mills. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. April 12, 1962 [April 13, 1961], No. 14113/62. Heading B2A. A pulverizing mill comprises a hollow roller 3 having an outer grinding surface which coacts with a table 4 and an inner grinding surface which coacts with a second roller 5, and means 8 for applying a controlled pressure between the grinding surfaces. Three sets of the rollers 3, 5 are equi-spaced around the table 4, with the rollers 5 of each driven by a motor unit 6 and so driving both the roller 3 and table 4. Material fed on to the table 4 via a central duct 9 is ground when it moves outwardly between the rollers 3, 5 and between the rollers 5 and table 4 while an adustable loading is applied to the surfaces by means of hydraulic or pneumatic jacks 8 disposed under bearings 7 of the table. On reaching the edge of the table, the material is entrained by a stream of air supplied from a chamber 10 and carried upwardly into a classifier 12 which returns unsufficiently ground material for further grinding preferably via ducts 13.
