Abstract

Immunisation appts. is intended to disperse freeze-dried vaccines the particles of which have been reduced, by pre-grinding, to a dia. of 100 mu. The appts. comprises a feeding system and a dispersing system. In the former the product is fed, by the action of a piston, into contact with a blade rotating at 2000 rpm. The particles, ground by the blade, are carried in suspension in the turbulence created by the blade through a venturi tube directly into the microniser, which acts as the dispersing system. The latter is made entirely from stainless steel and comprises a grinding chamber fed with compressed air at 2-6 bars; grinding is effected by the shock of the particles striking the walls of the chamber or by the particles striking each other. Yields are greatly improved and the appts. can be used in all cases where it is desired to obtain an aerosol from a solid, friable product. It can also be used for the production of freeze-dried antigen aerosols for mass vaccination and for the prodn. of therapeutic aerosols.
