Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In apparatus for drying and milling animal, vegetable or mineral matter, the material is fed from a hopper 1 at an adjustable rate into a chamber having comminutor blades 6 and an inlet for gases-at a temperature from 600 to 1300‹C which transport the comminuted material past a divider 8 under the influence of a blower 8 through a vertical drying tower 9 to a first cyclone separator 10, and the separated material is then cooled by transport through a duct 22 by atmospheric air by a second blower 21 to a further cyclone separator 23 for removal to a bagging device 25. Additional drying air may be introduced into the tower 9 at 13 and a temperature sensing device 15 in the tower may control the temperature of the air entering the drying and milling chamber or the rate of feed thereinto.
