Abstract

1449966 Vibratory mills; coating apparatus OXY METAL FINISHING CORP 11 Feb 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 06161/74 Headings B2A and B2L [Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A vibratory treating and drying machine comprises a processing tank I connected to a vibration generator 6, and a radiant heater 13 stationarily mounted below the tank and facing a wall of the tank, heat supplied to the wall being transmitted to the contents of the tank by conduction. The treatment may consist of the crushing of granulates or pulverulent material, or finishing, polishing, grinding, trimming, burnishing, painting, coating or other surface treatment of parts. During drying, usually following the treating, a drying agent such as sawdust or vegetable granulate is poured into the tank. The tank may be annular and either circular or polygonal and is mounted by springs 5 on a frame 3. The base 2 of the tank carries a vibration generator consisting of a motor 6 and weights 7, 8. As described, three infra-red radiant heaters 13 are fixed below the base of the tank to effect drying of the contents. A skirt 14 extends downwardly from the tank to ensure absorption of the radiation. The heaters may be arranged along the inner and/or outer vertical walls of the tank. In another embodiment, the tank is in the form of a straight semi-cylindrical trough and several infra-red heaters are arranged transversely or longitudinally beneath the tank. A screen (15, Fig. 1, not shown) may be provided for effecting sorting, screening or separation.
