Means for obtaining a pressure drop in a liquid flow line dependent on viscosity of the liquid comprises a rotor 15 within a body 5 having an inlet 6 and outlet 7, a sleeve member 16 rotated against spring 17 through the viscosity of a thin layer of the liquid between members 15, 16 as the rotor turns and means, e.g. pin 19 and cam slot 18 whereby rotation of the sleeve moves it axially to variably restrict the flow path 13. The sleeve may be replaced by a piston or disc. The pressure drop may also be made dependent on inlet pressure by providing a spring-loaded piston valve 22.
