Abstract

953,270. Separating liquids from gases. GARDNER-DENVER CO. June 21, 1962 [March 14, 1962], No. 23914/62. Heading BIT. [Also in Division F1] A gravity oil collecting chamber 30 in the discharge duct 32 of a rotary compressor has a vertical cylindrical oil agglomerating screen 78 suspended from the cover plate 46 of a housing 44 and the air-oil so formed is forced by the prevailing air pressure through said screen and through an inner perforated backing screen 80 down which the foam flows and through apertures 72 near the base of a closedended axial tube 62 having a branch duct 86 which is connected by a duct 88 to a closed pressure chamber 22c, Fig. 5 (not shown), of the compressor. Loss at the compressed air component of the foam is thus avoided. Oil is withdrawn from the base of chamber 30 through a duct 32 and is returned by a pump to the compressor. Oil-free compressed air traverses an aperture hollow stem 58 leading to an outlet 38.
