Abstract

1,184,070. Air filter. SANKO SIESAKUSHO K.K. 22 Sept., 1967, No. 43341/67. Heading BIT. [Also in Division F2] An air filter comprises an inward-flow element 3, 4 of wool felt which is cleaned by reverse-flow when a piston 17 descends in cylinder 5, which forms a path for filtered air to outlet 7, piston 17 being depressed by delivering compressed air into upper cylinder 18 above piston 22 through valve 20. Valve 20 is moved by an electromagnet 19, whereupon the air in chamber 21 is sufficient to depress piston 22, against spring 23, and the pressure in chamber 21 is down to atmospheric when piston 22 reaches the end of its stroke. After an interval, while dust blown and shaken from the element settles, valve 20 is closed and the pistons rise. The inlet 25 supplying compressed air to chamber 21 is restricted and the chamber is re-pressurised during the next filtering cycle. The element shown comprises two concentric tubes, but alternative arrangements (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) are a plurality of single tubes, or a mixture of single and concentric tubes in one housing. Piston 17 has a peripheral gasket of rubber, plastics, metal or carbon (Figs. 4, 5, not shown).
