Abstract

1,077,368. Rotary compressors. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. May 31, 1965 [June 4, 1964], No. 23141/65. Heading F1F. A rotary refrigerant compressor has a normally closed valve (72), Fig. 4 (not shown), operable by means of a temperature responsive device (82) located in the exhaust chamber to allow liquid refrigerant supplied to an inlet (76) to flow through a passage (78) to enter and thereby cool the compression chamber. The temperature responsive device (82) is arranged to operate in the event of the outlet temperature increasing to a high value due to e. g. the suction line being closed. A cam (80) movable by the device (82) is arranged to actuate a slidable pin (74) to open the valve (72). The compression chamber (16), Figs. and 2 (not shown) is defined by the space between a cylindrical bore (11) and an eccentrically mounted cylindrical rotor (C) having radial grooves (30) supplied with oil under pressure to urge vanes (15) therein into contact with the bore (11). Oil is removed from the compressed gas by a separating unit (52) and is collected in a sump (53) to be forced by the discharge gas pressure through a screen (54) and a tube (55) to lubricate the rotor bearings and to pass into the grooves (30) by way of passages (31). The gas to be compressed passes from an inlet 46, through a control valve (E), a chamber (42) and an arcuate port 60 into the compression chamber and is discharged through a plurality of outlet slots (33) in the bore (11) controlled by automatic flexible reed-type valve elements (35).
