952,776. Pipe joints. DOULTON & CO. Ltd. Oct. 17, 1961, No. 37252/61. Heading F2G. In a spigot-and-socket joint there are provided two annular members, one 15 housed within the socket 2, and one 3 fitted around the spigot 1, each member being of a resiliently deformable material such as polyvinyl chloride and presenting an annular sealing surface of frusto-conical form with a very small cone angle, e.g. 2 degrees, which surfaces co-operate with each other, and one of the members has a rib 7 standing proud of its sealing surface and which is compressed by engagement with the sealing surface of the other member. As shown, the pipes have grooves 4, 14 which receive fins 5, 16 of the cast members 3, 15, and the member 3 has a chamfered forward edge 9.
