Abstract
A cold-worked, age-hardened copper-base alloy member, for use as a generator rotor wedge, consists of by weight:- .Be.0.2 to 2.1%, .Co and/or Ni.0.5 to 12.0%, .Zr and/or Hf.0.01 to 1.0%, Cu and incidental impurities, with Pb not exceeding 0.005%, balance. A member made from a melt of the above composition may be cold-worked, preferably hot-forged at 927 DEG C. and water quenched, optionally solution annealed at 750 DEG C. or more and further quenched, then aged at 300-600 DEG C. Two Cu-base alloys not according to the invention are disclosed both containing 0.54% Be and 2.5% Co without Zr, one with 0.01% Pb, the other with less than 0.005% Pb.
