Abstract

952,520. Tipping casks &c. WRIGHT HARGREAVES ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 4, 1962 [Oct. 16, 1961], No. 36969/61. Heading B8E. Apparatus for inverting casks 20 or other substantially cylindrical containers while halted on a conveyer 12 of a washing machine comprise swivel devices which engage the cask below its centre of gravity so that when lifted the cask is free to rotate to an inverted position. Arms 14 have bearings 21 mounting swivel members 22 and are mounted for vertical and horizontal pivotal movements about pivots 23, 15 of a carriage 10 running on rails 11. The arrangement is such that when a cask 20 halts on the conveyer 12 hydraulic rams 13, 19, 24 operate to advance the carriage towards the cask, the arms to grip it below the centre of gravity and then to raise the arms so that the cask tips to invert. A plate 25 engages a stop of an arm 14 to restrict the swing to about 180 degrees while a trip arm 29 prevents rebound. Alternatively the arms may be mounted on vertical guides above the conveyer.
