Abstract
952,189. Transferring designs. MEYERCORD CO. Oct. 12, 1960 [Oct. 12, 1959], No. 34922/60. Heading B6C. A decalcomania 1 for transferring a design &c. to an elastomeric surface such as the sidewall 20 of a tyre comprises a backing layer 10 of well-parchmentized vegetable fibre parchment, e.g. of sulphite pulp fibres, which are treated to reduce the adhesion thereof, a layer 11 of cellulose acetate suitable for lacquer formulation, and a printed design or marking layer 12 comprising a synthetic or natural rubber latex composition. The decalcomania shown includes a white pigment background layer 13 for the design, a blocking layer 14 which prevents migration or bleeding of colour from the pigmented surface of the tyre, and a layer 15 of clear rubber composition which forms an adherent bond with the tyre during vulcanization. During cooling the backing member 10 either drops off or is removed manually. The parchment may be treated by either a chromium complex salt, a stearato-chrome chloride salt, a myristato-chrome salt, or a silicon compound, dissolved in an organic solvent to reduce its adhesive properties. U.S.A. Specification 2,759,035 is referred to.
