Abstract
723,776. Transfers. OMEGA PLASTICS, Ltd. Aug. 8,1952 [Aug. 9, 1951], No. 18821/51. Class 100 (2). A transfer material consists of a film backing layer carrying a design printed wholly or in part in fluorescent ink, the areas in fluorescent ink being under-printed with a highly reflective layer of light-coloured or white pigment or pigment of substantially the same colour as the ink or the backing layer, the assembly of film and design being secured by a removable or destructible adhesive layer to a temporary support. The reflective under-printing increases the fluorescent effect of the fluorescent ink. The adhesive and support may be secured over the design or to the opposite side of the backing layer, and consequently the design will be buried in the transfer material or be an outerface thereof respectively. The backing layer may be a layer of any cellulose or oil colour paint, or a clear cellulose lacquer or oil varnish. The under-print may comprise any white or light-coloured ink or paint, enhanced by the inclusion of a small proportion of a bluefluorescing substance, an optical bleacher. The under-printed areas may be greater than the areas printed in fluorescent ink. The fluorescent inks may consist of those known as "Noonink" or under the Registered Trade Mark "Dayglo," or similar inks. The adhesive may be soft gelatine or glue which can be removed by immersing in water, or gum dammar, which can be broken by pulling apart. The temporary support is preferably flexible and usually paper. Adhesion to the permanent support may be effected by the remains of the original adhesive or with fresh adhesive. The quality of the product can be improved by providing a clear colloid protective layer such as a clear cellulose lacquer over at least the fluorescent ink areas in the transferred material. This layer can be applied to the face of the transferred design, or may form part of the original material, lying between the fluorescent ink design and the adhesive or as a supercoat on the design according to the form of material used.
