Abstract

323,724. Steele, W. H. Oct. 16, 1928. Transfers.-Transfers comprise a paper or other backing having thereon a soluble coating of gelatine or other material and a further coating of transparent permanent gelatine such as photographic gelatine, emulsion, or the like which may or may not be light-sensitive, the second coating being provided with a directly-printed image or lithograph in one or more colours. When the second coating is light-sensitive, a photographic image for use with the printing or lithograph may be provided, the photograph being preferably fixed before the application of the printed image or lithograph. If desired a double transfer may be employed adapted to be transferred from the original backing to another backing so as to reverse the image. The transfer is particularly adapted to be applied to a surface of gelatine, which may be light sensitive, provided on one surface of a glass plate, and the transferred design may be protected by a cover-glass secured in place by a coating of gelatine; alternatively, the protection may be effected by a coating of paint, varnish, bronze powder, or cellulose solution. When a cover-glass is employed, the gelatine surface thereon may also be provided with an image so as to form a composite design with that on the ornamented glass surface.
