Abstract

423,727. Transferring designs. TUCK & SONS, Ltd., R., Moorfields, London, and WATKINSON, E. S. 22, Woodstock Gardens, Goodmayes, Essex. Oct. 11, 1934, No. 29126. [Class 100 (ii)] Pictures, letterpress, photographic films, or other matter are transferred from one surface or carrier to another by the use of a transfer paper of the kind comprising a paper sheet coated with dextrine or other adhesive, and then with a transparent film of a cellulose derivative. A sheet of such transfer paper is placed upon the picture &c., which has been treated with methylated spirit or other substance which will soften the cellulose coating of the transfer paper. The paper or other original carrier of the picture is then treated with soda, potash, acid, or other material which will effect its destruction and is then removed either wholly or in such a manner to leave a thin layer of the carrier. The remaining soda &c., is neutralized by a suitable agent such as nitric acid and alum, and the picture applied to the new carrier. The paper of the transfer is then removed. When the whole of the original carrier is removed, the transfer bearing the picture is softened with methylated spirit prior to its application to the new carrier. If a thin layer of the original carrier remains it is coated with adhesive and applied to the new carrier.
