Abstract

951,634. Valves. J. ELAND, and R. G. S. ELECTRO-PNEUMATICS Ltd. July 6, 1960 [May 20, 1959], No. 17061/59. Heading F2V. The combination of a pressure responsive main valve with a trip operated auxiliary valve for relieving pressure on the main valve, is characterized in that the main valve comprises a body 10 having a cylindrical bore 11 which slidably receives the smaller diameter portion 18a of a differential piston main valve member 18 controlling flow between an inlet 12, an outlet 13, and an exhaust 14 in the body, the piston being formed with an axial bore 18c having at one end a restriction 18d, the body being formed at one end with a casing 15 having cylindrical bore of larger diameter than the bore in the body 10 and forming a chamber 16 adapted slidably to receive the larger diameter portion 18b of the piston, this chamber being in communication with atmosphere by way of an axially located port 21 formed at right angles with a small bleed hole 22, the casing 15 being provided externally with a bifurcated bracket 17 in which is pivotally mounted a spring biased lever arm 25 furnished with an adjustable auxiliary valve 23 adapted normally to close the bleed hole 22, the lever being furnished at its free end with a spring influenced trip lever 30, pivotally mounted in the lever 25 and provided at its outer end with a freely mounted bowl or roller 32, the other end of the trip lever 30 being shaped to provide a stop 30a to prevent movement of this trip lever relatively to the lever arm in one direction. Inlet pressure is communicated to the axial bore 18c through a hole 18e. The device may be operated by an abutment movable in the direction of arrow A to provide a pressure impulse to an air operated relay.
