Abstract

951,630. Casting processes. DARWINS Ltd. Aug. 14, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 39279/60. Heading B3F. A method of melting and casting steel and alloys of solid two-phase structure comprises melting a consumable electrode of the metal by means of an arc struck between that electrode and a second solid electrode into a mould and withdrawing the ingot progressively from the mould. Both electrodes 5 may be of metal of the required composition and may be rotated as they advance. The furnace chamber 1 may be evacuated or supplied with an inert gas such as argon, helium or nitrogen through an inlet 18.
