Abstract
Age-hardenable alloys contain in percentage by weight: .Ti.0.3 -4 .Sn.0.5 -5 .Cr.0.05-2 .Ag.0 -1 .P.0 -0.05 .Cu.not less than 90 Solution treatment is carried out at 825-890 DEG C., terminated by quenching and followed by age hardening at a temperature between 400 and 475 DEG C. for 2-4 hours. When however high electrical conductivity is a prime requirement, ageing time is extended to 6-8 hours, at a temperature of approximately 450 DEG C. Use of the alloy for electrodes and electrode holders for resistance welding, electric contacts, and springs, is referred to. The alloys may be prepared by melting the constituents together under an inert atmosphere; chromium may be added as a copper-chromium master alloy.
