Abstract

For soldering or brazing palladium a nickel dissolved atomic hydrogen is incorporated in the soldering or brazing alloy and in an example silver, copper and indium in the proportions 55.5%, 30.8% and 8.0% by weight of the final alloy are alloyed in a porcelain crucible under vacuum by heating to 950 DEG C., the alloy is cooled and 5.7% by weight of palladium powder is added and the temperature raised to 400 DEG C. in a hydrogen atmosphere to allow atomic hydrogen to be dissolved in the palladium but without substantial solution of the palladium in the alloy. The temperature is then raised to 820 DEG C. in the hydrogen atmosphere to obtain complete solution of the palladium. The cooled alloy may be rolled to a foil and annealing takes place in hydrogen.
