Abstract

1,157,163. Copper base alloys. AMERICAN METAL CLIMAX Inc. Oct. 14, 1966 [Oct. 15, 1965; Aug. 2, 1966], No. 45998/66. Heading C7A. A copper-zirconium chromium alloy comprises; Zr 0À01 - 0À3% Mg 0À01 - 0À06% and Cr 0À03 - 1À2% the balance, apart from impurities such as S, P and Hf, being copper. The alloy may be made by melting copper containing less than 600 ppm oxygen and then adding the Cr, Mg & Zr. Preferably the Mg is added prior to or with the Zr and Cr and the melt is cast through a flame curtain or in an inert (A) atmosphere. The alloy may be hotworked at 982‹C solution treated at 600-950‹C quenched in water and cold drawn.
