Abstract
950,373. Cable supports. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Jan. 3, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1962; July 5, 1962], Nos. 393/62 and 25816/62. Heading H2C. A lightweight non-ferrous clamp body 1 secures a cable by a cover-plate 2 and U-bolts 3 and is supported in the slots 6 of a galvanized mild steel stirrup 4 by a pair of trunnions 7 which comprise a wear-resisting bushing and project from opposite sides of the clamp body. Each trunnion consists of a core 8 integral with the clamp body and a malleable cast iron bush 9 which has a greater wall thickness at its lower side. The shape of the core and the inner walls of the bush are such that relative rotation is prevented and the core is spread to grip the inside of the bush and to overlap the end of the bush to ensure that relative axial movement is also prevented. Various shapes of core and bush are described. In one arrangement a part, and in another, the whole length of the core is of square cross-section; in another the round core fits in a round bush but flats to prevent movement are formed by compression, in yet another the bush and core are pinned together and in a final arrangement keys are formed on the core.
