Abstract

1,033,290. Mineral insulated cable. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. April 7, 1965 [Dec. 31, 1964], No. 53018/64. Heading H1A. Certain mineral insulated thermocouple cables, particularly those heavy sheaths of stainless steel or nickel are subject to embrittlement of the thermocouple conductors when heated, for example during welding or calibration processes. The cable of the invention avoids this by lining the sheath with stainless steel or with an alloy having the following composition, nickel not less than 72%, chromium 14 to 17%, iron 6 to 10% and only small percentages of carbon, silicon, magnesium, copper and sulphur. The invention is stated to be particularly applicable to nickel/chromium and nickel/aluminium conductors.
