Abstract

574,926. Electric cables. BOLTON & SONS, Ltd., T., ALKINS, W. E., and SLATER, W. F. Aug. 24, 1944, No. 16112. [Class 36] In an electric cable, the core 1, Fig. 1, is interlocked at spaced points with a helically wound sheath 6. The core may be made of the same material as the outer sheath, or of some material of high tensile strength, e.g., steel, while the sheath may be made of copper, aluminium or an alloy of high electrical conductivity. The spaced points are formed by pips 4, 5 on the edge or side of the core, and in a modification the core is U-shaped with the pips pressed out of the bend of the U ; or again, the U-shaped core may hold a flat strip on which the pips may be formed. A further modification provides for depressions in the core and interlocking projections on the sheath. Fig. 4 shows two sheaths wound helically, and preferably in opposite senses, the projections 9 engaging one or both sheaths 11, 12. In the former case, the sheaths are interlocked by pips and depressions 13, 14.
