Abstract
929,693. Supporting cables. ANDRE RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 9, 1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 24473/61. Class 36. A spacer for overhead transmission lines has a resiliently bushed clamp through which the line passes the bore of the clamp being flared outwardly to accommodate the internal surface of a similarly shaped bush. Fig. 1 shows the clamp which comprises two parts liquid together at 3 and provided with a locking pin 19 and cutter. The two jaws are forced together against the resilience of the bush 5 on the cable and the cotter inserted in recess 22. Fig. 3 shows the cross-section of the bush and clamp. The bore walls are concave at H and engage concave outer surfaces of the bush. The ends of the bush are also curved at 11 on e smaller radius of curvature than an adjacent part 10 of the bore. This allows the bush to give if the cable is not accurately aligned with the cable axis. The bore of the bush may be the same as that of the cable in which case the external diameter of the bush is greater than the bore so as to ensure that the cable is gripped. Alterna tively the bore of the bush may be equal to that of the cable in which case the outside diameter is equal to the bore of the clamp. The bush may be formed in two semicircular halves each of which is provided with a locating pin for engaging the appropriate part of the clamp and may be of synthetic rubber incorporating layers of textile or wire reinforcement. The bore of the bush may be grooved to fit the cable stranding or may be serrated or knurled.
