949,056. Brake drivers' valves. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI S.p.A. Sept. 8, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1959], No. 30931/60. Heading F2F. In a vehicle brake system a distributer valve assembly comprises three valves for supplying compressed air to individual brake lines, the central valve being operated directly by a control lever 6 pivoted at 6<SP>1</SP> and the centre two valves being operated through a balancing lever 7 pivoted at 9 to the lever 6. Operation of the lever 6 raises hollow sleeves 32, 35 and 34, through which brake lines M 1 , M 2 and M 3 are normally exhausted to atmosphere, to seal the lines from atmosphere by plates 28, 31 and 30 and then to raise plates 24, 27 and 26 so that the lines are connected to local reservoirs S 1 , S 2 and S 3 . These reservoirs are fed through check valves 16, 15 and 18 from a compressed air supply pipe 5. The lengths of the sleeves and stiffnesses of the springs 40 43, and 42 determine the operating sequence of the valves, so that, for instance, the central valve may be opened first in a tractor-trailer vehicle to operate the trailer brakes before the tractor brakes.
