Abstract

A weldable, hardenable and corrosion resisting steel contains in percentage by weight: .Cr.11-14. .C.0.03-0.25. .Mn.0.25-2. .Ni.4-8. .N.0-0.25. .Nb, Ta,.0.05-0.25.optionally .V, Zr, W..present .Si.0.10-0.70. .Fe.balance. the value of (Cr content-15 X carbon content) being not less than 10, and the composition being such that the alloy after heating at 1000 DEG C. for three hours, cooling in air to room temperature, reheating to 575-600 DEG C. for one hour, and cooling to room temperature, has a microstructure which contains 15-40% of austenite.
