Abstract

947,784. Controllers. V. H. ARNOLD, E. H. COWLED, and E. S. KNIGHT. Oct. 18, 1960 [Oct. 21, 1959], No. 35596/60. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions A4 and B8] A conduit 10, open at its end nearest the mouth of a liquid (e.g. petrol) dispensing nozzle 11, is evacuated by a fan 16 and is in communication with a pressure switch 20 arranged to stop the flow of liquid when the pressure in the conduit drops below a predetermined minimum. Closure of a main switch 31 supplies current through relay contacts 24, 26 to the fan 16 and a pump 35 causing petrol to flow down a hose 13, through a manuallyoperable valve 6 and out of the nozzle 11 into a tank (not shown). As soon as the level of petrol in the tank is sufficient to cover the end of conduit 11 the pressure therein begins to fall due to the fan 16. The reduced pressure actuates the switch 20 to close the circuit of a relay 23 and change over contact 24 to 27, disconnecting the supply to the pump and fan and connecting it to a solenoid valve 21 which restores atmospheric pressure in the conduit. The relay 23 is provided with a latch maintaining it in the energized position until the main switch 31 is opened. An audible or visual indicator may be provided to show when the motors have been switched-off.
