Abstract
802,252. Dispensing liquids. THORNBER, E., and ASTIN, W. May 6, 1957 [March 4, 1956], No. 7903/56. Class 116 Apparatus for dispensing liquid from a cask or barrel to the delivery nozzle of a beer engine is characterized by the provision in the feed pipe between the cask and the nozzle, of a non-return valve, a chamber open to the feed pipe but otherwise closed and airtight, and a pipe leading from an overflow or drip tray and provided with a non-return valve, in that order. As shown beer is drawn by an electric pump c from a cask e to a dispensing nozzle a<1>, only a little of the beer coming from a transparent airtight chamber m which is part filled with beer and part with air. When the pump is switched off, beer from a drip tray b flows past a non-return valve h and partly into the chamber m, which is of sufficient volume to allow all the beer from the tray to re-enter the system after any dispensing operation. A non-return valve j prevents the beer returning into the cask, and a hand tap l enables the chamber m to be shut off from the system if required. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the beer is pumped by hand, and the valve h is shown as a float valve.
