Abstract

903,153. Reciprocating pumps; raising liquids. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 7, 1958], No. 4505/59. Classes 102(1) and 102(2). Apparatus for delivering liquids from a tank 1 at a constant rate of flow comprises a cylinder 3, having an inlet at the bottom and an outlet 6 at the top which is higher than the tank, and housing a piston 4 of smaller diameter than the cylinder. A conduit 2 leads from the tank to the cylinder inlet and has a portion above the outlet 6 which is connected by a line 9 to valves 10, 11. In operation with the piston 4 in its upper position the valve 10 is opened to connect the line 9 to vacuum and thus prime the syphon to feed liquid from the tank 1 to the cylinder 3. The valve 10 is then closed and the valve 11 opened to connect 9 to the atmosphere and the piston 4 is moved into the cylinder at a constant speed whereby liquid is forced past the piston to the outlet 6 and flows through conduit 7 to a tank 8 at a constant rate of flow. Two cylinders 3 may be provided and operated such that a continuous flow of liquid is supplied to the tank 8 at a constant rate.
