Abstract

776,522. Dispensing liquids. JACOBS, W. H. Nov. 1, 1955, No. 31232/55. Class 116. A pump 37, Fig. 3, for stirring a beverage within a container 10 is driven by a magnetic device 19 mounted outside the container. In the construction illustrated the pump also serves to dispense the beverage and comprises a plastic impeller formed with vanes 39, Fig. 7, and carrying a permanent magnet 40 which co-operates with a permanent magnet 19 carried by the shaft 20 of an electric motor 21, Fig. 3. The impeller 37 is carried by a shaft 35 mounted within a cap 27 formed with a handle 28 and secured by wedging lugs 31, which engage fixed pins 30, to close a well 22 leading from the container 10 to the pump chamber. Liquid is withdrawn from the chamber 10 through passages 43, 44 and delivered through a conduit 45 to a valve stem 50, 51 sliding within a sleeve 25 on the container 10. In the position illustrated the liquid passes through the upper portion 51 of the valve stem to a stand pipe 53 which has an upper aperture 59, Fig. 3, delivering liquid to flow over the surface of the top 23 of the container 10, and a lower aperture 58 which directs liquid tangentially of a casing 14 containing refrigerating coils 13. The valve stem 50, 51 can be raised by a handle 62 to bring an aperture 68 leading to a delivery spout 50 into register with the conduit 45: in this position of the valve stem some liquid is still delivered to the stand pipe 53. The container 10 is preferably of transparent plastic and has a double walled top 23, 24. It is mounted on a pedestal 11 which contains refrigerating apparatus delivering liquid to the coils 13. The housing 14 of the coils 13 projects through a gasket 17 sealing an aperture in the base of the container 10. A sterilizing lamp 68 shines through a window 69 on the delivery spout 50.
