Abstract

1384436 Mixing apparatus YUEN SE-KIT 3 Nov 1972 50837/72 Heading B1C A device for agitating and pumping a liquid comprises an impeller chamber 64 adapted to be immersed in the liquid, and having a liquid inlet 69, a rotary impeller in the chamber, and a tube 24 for passage of liquid from the chamber, a part of the wall of the chamber 64 being movable between a first position in which rotation of the impeller can throw liquid from within the chamber through at least one aperture 66 in the wall to agitate the liquid, and a second position in which the liquid is pumped through an outlet from the chamber into the tube 24, the movable part of the wall being resiliently biassed to one of the two. positions. The movable part of the chamber wall comprises a cup shaped member 70 disposed at the lower end of a tubular member 62 which is slidably disposed in the outlet tube 24 for the device and the drive shaft 20 for the impeller passes coaxially through the tubes 24, 62. In the upper position of the movable wall member 70, to which it is biassed by spring 60, apertures 66 are uncovered and the entry to a discharge tube 26, 28 is blocked by the tube 62; in its lower position, to which it can be moved by manual pressure on a push button 58 the apertures 66 are covered and an outlet hole 74 in tube member 62 communicates with discharge tube 26, 28 and thus allows the liquid to be pumped through a cut-away part in a chamber liner 72, into tube 24, and thus through hole 74 into the discharge tube 26, 28. The device may form part of a dispenser e.g. for beverages, being mounted in a cap 12 adapted to be screwed on to a jar 10. Batteries 42 mounted in the cap provide power for a drive motor 18 for the impeller, switch means 54 for actuating the motor being closed by initial movement of the push button 58. A funnel 44 allows for liquid to be introduced into the jar 10.
