Abstract
883,184. Automatic watering control systems. FRAMPTON, R. E., and LOWNDES, D. B., [trading as MACPENNY'S MIST PROPAGATION]. March 16, 1960 [March 17, 1959], No. 9129/59. Class 38 (4). A voltage doubler circuit is made or broken by a conductive liquid rising or falling in a vessel provided with electrodes, so that a relay is operated to supply water to a watering system and to the vessel when the circuit is broken by the fall of liquid level in the vessel. As shown, fall in water level in a rain gauge 1 below an electrode 5 disconnects an A.C. supply through a resistor 7 to a voltage doubler rectifier 10 so that a relay 14 is de-energized to initiate the watering of plants by energizing an electromagnetically-operated valve (not shown) connected to leads 15, 16. Water is also supplied to the rain gauge while watering, but sufficient current to energize relay 14 and stop watering is not available until the level in the rain gauge rises to electrode 4 so that resistor 7 is shortcircuited.
