Abstract

905,861. Feedwater regulators for steam boilers. DAMPFERZEUGER VEB. March 6, 1959, No. 7933/59. Class 123 (2). [Also in Groups XVIII and XXXVI] In a liquid level indicating system, electrodes are positioned in a container to correspond to the highest or lowest level and are each connected in a bridge circuit the outputs of which are fed to an electronic valve controlling two relays of different sensitivity depending on the relative positions of the liquid level and the electrodes. The boiler feed water control system shown is started by setting switch 4 to position 2 and closing push-button 35. If the water covers the lower electrode 13, the bridge circuit formed by resistors 14, 15, 16 will be unbalanced so that the output, when rectified by a voltage doubling circuit 51, 52, will cause valve 9 to energize the more sensitive relay 23. This action lights an indicator lamp 31 and energizes a boiler fuel supply relay 22. When the water level is below electrode 12 a bridge circuit formed by the resistors 17, 18, 19 is approximately balanced, so that its small alternating voltage output, after rectification by a voltage doubling circuit comprising rectifiers 47, 48, provides a voltage which is insufficient to allow valve 9 to energize the lesssensitive relay 20. When the water level covers electrode 12, relay 20 is energized, lighting an indicator lamp 33 and stopping the feed water pump or valve 21. In the event of the water level falling below electrode 13, the bridge comprising resistors 14, 15, 16 becomes approximately balanced, reducing the current of valve 9 so that both relays 23, 20 are released, releasing the fuel supply relay 22, energizing visual and audible alarms 36, 37 and providing an indication on a recorder 38. The system cannot be restarted until push-button 35 is again operated. Fig. 1 (not shown) relates to an arrangement in which the bridge circuits are fed with direct voltage and are connected to successive grids of valve 9.
