Abstract

555,851. Indicating and controlling liquid levels. JUFFS, J. C., and BONNER, G. W. May 5, 1942, No. 6029. [Classes 116 and 123 (i)] A device for topping up batteries comprises a trolley 1 carrying a tank 2 containing the necessary liquid, and a flexible pipe 3 with nozzle 5 and handoperated valve 4. The body of the nozzle 6 forms an electrode which is insulated from a central electrode 7, the electrodes being bridged by the liquid in the battery when it rises to a predetermined level. The unit comprising the nozzle and valve also carries an indicator lamp 12. A battery 13 on the trolley is connected to the electrodes through a relay coil 16, which is energised when the electrodes 6, 7 are bridged to open a switch 17 in the circuit of the lamp 12. The lamp illuminates the nozzle 5, and when extinguished the valve 4 is allowed to close. Alternatively, the valve may be controlled automatically. The lamp circuit may be supplied by a separate battery.
