Abstract

994,270. Faults testing. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 26, 1962, No. 11493/62. Heading G1U. [Also in Divisions B7 and H2] An apparatus for grounding a fuel tank vehicle to discharge static electricity consists of a source of electricity; a transformer 10 connected thereto and supplying a rectifier 23; a clamp 26 for making connections with the vehicle 28 and a relay 17, 19 controlling an indicating lamp 21 connected to the source of electricity. The jaws 26b of clamp 26 are insulated from one another and when both make contact with a metal part of the vehicle a small current flows between them to energize the relay 17 and thus to light lamp 21. Separate earths are provided for the transformer and one side of the clamp so that clamp 21 can only be lit when the clamp is truly earthed. The lamp may be replaced by a buzzer or bell or a electromagnetic device. In an alternative circuit (Fig. 2 not shown) the clamp 26 is arranged on the A.C. side of rectifier 23. A magnetic form of clamp 26 (Fig. 5a not shown) is disclosed.
