Abstract

[Also in Divisions G2 and H2] A lampholder assembly for a microscope coinprises a lampholder 14 with bulb 15, mounted on a carrier 12 which is slidably received in a guide tube 13 within a housing 10, contacts 16, 17 electrically connected to the lamp and insulated from and mounted on the carrier engaging respective contacts 18, 19 similarly mounted in the housing. Replacement of the bulb is effected by sliding the assembly from the housing through aperture 11, the electrical connections between contacts 16, 18 and 17, 19 being thereby broken so that the lamp may be replaced safely. A guide pin 12<SP>1</SP> aligns the carrier 12 correctly in the housing. A tapped transformer 21 may provide different voltages to the lamp 15, when in situ, via a selector switch 20. The housing may be a pedestal base of a microscope.
