947,297. Cable coverings. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. July 18, 1962 [July 19, 1961], No. 27592/62. Heading H1A. In an electric cable having a metallic sheath covered in a layer of corrosion inhibiting material a further covering layer is provided of self-sealing material adhering to both the inhibiting layer and an external protective envelope. The intermediate layer consists of a mixture of polyisobutylene, polythene and a plasticizer. For lead sheathed cables the inhibiting covering may be a layer of tar containing traces of phenol; and for aluminium sheathing a formal resin primer or polyvinyl acetal of zinc chromate and phosphoric acid. The external envelope of the treated cable may be of high density polythene or P.V.C.
