Abstract

800,903. Cables. GENERAL CABLE CORPORATION. Jan. 7, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1956], No. 638/57. Class 36. A self-supporting aerial telephone cable comprises a plurality of conductor pairs 11 tightly enclosed in an extruded metal sheath 13, an extruded polythene jacket 14, a messenger strand 15 lying substantially parallel to the cable and a flat helical strip 16 binding the messenger strand to the cable. The jacket 14 may be of polythene containing carbon black and the sheath 13 of lead. The strap 16 may be of metal and is preferably made of, or coated with, the same metal as the messenger strand 15, for example both may be of galvanized steel.
