Abstract
1,201,281. Laminates. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 5 Jan., 1968 [27 Jan., 1967], No. 819/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and H1] A laminate intended for use as a cable shield comprises a layer 12 of aluminium or copper adhesively bonded to at least one side of a layer 14 of ferrous metal through an interlayer 13 of a conducting polymer containing 25 to 50% by weight of carbon black and consisting of an α-olefin, especially ethylene, and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. Detailed examples of the construction of the shield are described. In a first construction aluminium and a tin-plated steel are used, in a second aluminium and stainless steel, in a third aluminium and annealed steel and in a fourth copper and tin-plated steel. The shield surrounds a bundle 11 of insulated wires in a conventional manner and is surrounded itself by a jacket 15 of thermoplastic material. A preferred polymer comprises a terpolymer of an α-olefin, α,#-mono ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and an alkyl ester of an α,#- ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (see Division C3).
